The Hours are a four piece, Indie/Alternative/Punk/Rock band from Calgary, Alberta. Their music has been described as driving melodies with pop sensibilities, lead riffs that stand out on their own with strong use of two vocalists. The Hours have played countless shows and have seen the colder parts of Alberta. With the addition of Jeebs Nabil of Nushi about 11 months ago the Hours have been stronger then ever and are fresh off of recording their Debut Ep "This Is What You Wanted" With Plans of more shows in Calgary and touring in the spring/summer they hope to make a bigger impact on the Calgary and surrounding scene. 'Love Will Find You' is the stunning second album fromYorkshire man Findlay Brown, produced by former Suedeguitarist turned uber producer Bernard Butler, and it heraldsa dramatic change in musical direction.

The booming echoes of the Ronettes in the drums of the openingtitle track immediately lay bare this album's debt to vintagepop, but Findlay's Orbison-esque vocals create a moresumptuous emotional swell that make this so much more than anexercise in retro stylistics.

Elsewhere the gorgeous 'Everybody Needs Love' and 'I Had ADream' offer the warm familiarity of melodies you think youknow and love, but can't quite remember where from, as if theyhave already become weaved into your DNA from years of beinglost in music. 'Holding Back The Night' is an upbeat,beautifully arranged track with Findlay's trademark sonorousvocals enhancing a magical song, while 'Nobody Cared' harksback to The Righteous Brothers, a vintage, melodic song at itsbest. More esoteric are the Joe-Meek-produces-The-Righteous-Brothers sweep of 'I Still Want You', punctuated with'Telstar- style electric organ, the weary waltz of 'If ICould Do It Again' and the urgent jive of 'That's Right'.

So there are tales of the unexpected here if you want them,but lyrically as well as musically, this is an album which ishappy not to reinvent the wheel. 'I wanted the words to besimple and straightforward too,' Findlay admits. 'Both recordsI have done have been romantic records, but the first albumwas more personal, whereas I wanted these to be universalthemes, which are love songs but are also spiritual,reflecting my feelings about the world in general. It soundsdaft but I do feel like I'm on a spiritual journey, and thisis just the next step.'

And it's not just a small step, it's a giant leap. On onelevel, you could be forgiven for regarding this as a veryconservative record, steeped as it is in songwriting values asold as rock'n'roll itself. But regarded in context alongsidehis previous work and the musical climate that surrounds him,you realise Findlay Brown has made the kind of radicalcreative departure that few mainstream artists ever dare toattempt.

Most importantly, you'll soon realise they don't write songslike this any more. Another piece of hoary old wisdom thatwe're not afraid to throw out there, and another cliche whichwill seem truer than ever the more you listen to this bold,refreshing and beautiful album.

About the Band:
The Race is an indie rock band formed in 2004 in Reading, UK. Likened to bands such as U2 and Arcade Fire by music magazines the New Musical Express, Drowned In Sound and The Fly, the band released their first long-playing album in 2006 through Shifty Disco Records (home to Young Knives, Paperlung et al). Following the album release, the band toured heavily - including residencies at Club NME, as well as appearances at Truck Festival and Reading Festival.

In January 2007, the band recorded a session for Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1) at the Maida Vale Studios. The band already had secured radio airplay, having previously performed a session for XFM in June 2005.

The band's second album, In My Head It Works, is due to be release in 2008. Marketing for the record includes a "Pass It On" campaign - a chain letter-style process that distributes promotional copies of the album across the country.

Release Notes:
Calling the thriving melting pot of Miami home, indie-rock buzz band Ex Norwegian formed in 2008 and performed at CMJ only months after their first gig and the release of their first single "Something Unreal." Their debut full-length “Standby,” releasing March 17, 2009 on Dying Van Gogh Records, includes twelve tracks that highlight Ex Norwegian’s love of classic power-pop mixed with British-invasion sensibility, creating an irresistibly catchy and unique style.

Ex Norwegian’s curious name came from a Monty Python episode. Chief singer/songwriter and guitarist, Roger Houdaille, is joined by high school friend Carolina Souto on bass, Arturo Garcia on drums, and Venezuelan Billie G on guitar.

While many are quick to point out influences such as the Kinks, Lou Reed and Talking Heads, the group does a fine job at coming across as a bit of fresh air. Much of the lyrics on Standby possess a subtle, edgy cynicism, with irresistible grooves and melodies that are plentiful too, as is the use of the all-powerful, scarily omnivorous mellotron. EX NORWEGIAN’S choice of band name usually demands some explanation -- its curious origin is from a Monty Python episode; as does their album title -- Standby started off as an inside joke but soon found a deeper meaning in today’s political climate. A handful of songs on the disc are political in nature, despite Houdaille’s allegations: “I tried to avoid writing blatantly political songs, but ultimately there are few on the album, including “My Name Is Paul” which is dedicated to former World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz.”

In anticipation of their debut album, two singles were released in 2008, the Shins-styled folk-pop “Something Unreal” and the 7" vinyl release “Dance Trance Pants,” which falls neatly somewhere in between The Killers and 70s glam epitomized by bands like T. Rex. The success of these singles was accompanied by numerous live performances throughout the US, as well as an appearance on the European TV network Sky News. Ex Norwegian now prepare to embark on an east coast tour this spring.

Just Like that, one spring evening in 2003, Colonial Quarrels were of to the races....So to speak.

Most of the material which appears on 2009's "The End Was An Honest Mistake"; 13 tracks quelled from 26 demoed songs.

It started out as a means to vent frustrations surrounding the particular events of that time. I was broke, on strike, fueling my song writing with early morning rises, late evenings with 10% Fax beer, Fireball and repeat viewings of "The Corporation"...Yup, welcome to the shit....MY version of the shit at the very least.

Chasity Alward (Piano, vocals) and Cameron Murphy (percussion, vocals) were there from the word go and I think all 3 of us welcomed the familiarity that came with us playing together in another band. It certainly helped calm any doubts we might have had about band chemistry.

David Gregory first came aboard as a guitar player for CQ but soon after expressed interest in taking up bass duties...Of course, why not? In all of our minds, the line up was far from being set in stone and as far as we were concerned, we had lots for work ahead of us in terms of honing our sound. We were not ignorant to the fact that we were not re-inventing the wheel but still felt we could carve out our own little niche amongst all the other contemporary artists of our time.

Rock & Roll has never been synonymous with rocket science...We would be fine. Besides, we had lots to say and many interesting ways to say it. If anything, we would have a great time learning all the songs off of Rodriguez "The Cold Facts"

2005-2006, the line-up was rounded out by Denis Surette (guitar, lap steel; Les Paiens fame) and Moncton's answer to Billy Preston (minus the Afro; ..s), an old and dear friend Stephane Doucet.

There you have it, all the ammunition we would ever need to express feelings of guilt, fear, love and most importantly dissent and disdain aimed at any and all ivory towers.

The band are led by John Blain Hunt and it's his intelligent lyrical song writing that makes you sit up and take notice when you slip 'React Or Die' into your CD player.

Butcher Boy's sound continues in the classic Glasgow vein -think Belle and Sebastian at their most potent. This is pop music that transports you to a sepia tinted world. A world where Morrissey and kitchen sink dramas take centre stage.The sleeve echoes classic Smiths whilst being thoroughly Butcher Boy - they're becoming very adept at building a world which you can easily slip into.

The LP rewards with repeated plays much in the way that their debut release did. Picking favourites is hard as the LP sits together as a complete whole. The most notable change is the way the production brings every nuance of the songs to the fore. This is classic indie pop - but this is no low budget recording. 'React Or Die' sounds like a labour of love and indeed it has taken a full year to realise. I fear protracted records as it can ultimately lead to an over egging of the cake where what was great about a band is stripped away. Thankfully this isn't the case here, as every song sounds fully formed and effortlessly made.

The ex Snow Patrol guitarist/songwriter Iain Archer will release a new album called To the Pine Roots on 23rd March on Black Records.

To The Pines Roots is an ethereal album, recorded at the point of writing and humming with imperceptible sounds. The whisper of instantly recalled melodies, the burring of an age-old harmonium, the ghostly reverb of pinewood walls and escapist rhythms teased from an acoustic guitar, distantly recalling a Celtic past.

Iain Archer is a songwriter of the forever-enigmatic mould.Unencumbered by musical trends and time constraints, he waits for the songs to find him. Here are the songs arrived at and visited by, not contrived or conspired but borne of liberated songwriting instinct. Within a simple framework of sparse arrangement and leading rhythms, forged over 3 months of visits to Schwarzwald Germany, Archer jumps from one songwriting muse and ruse to another, with the seamless coherent thread of a rare and oft overlooked songwriting talent.

From the hazy recollections of childhood he draws vivid the scenes of Black Mountain Quarry and Streamer On A Kite; with a playwrights gift for characterization The Acrobat and The Nightwatchman, pertinent metaphors for life and living; and at the albums core Frozen Lake, a steepling spire of a love song with a fragile voice, buoyed and raised by harmonium and strings.

It has been a furtive creative path for Iain Archer, arestlessness carried from his formative years in the Northern Irish seaside town of Bangor, the child of a musical and religious household. 'Bangor's a bit of a world of its own,he recalls. 'Even in Northern Ireland terms. There's a certain sort of separateness. And I think that's why when you're a teenager there you have a real sense of wanting to escape, to anywhere else.'

Written and recorded under Archer's own steam, To The Pine Roots has already sold out much of its original pressing from sales exclusively through his website, a release typical of such a free spirited artist. From his early career with the mid-90s solo records on Scottish label Sticky, Iain Archer has always forged an instinctive songwriters path. Having diverted from that first solo incarnation to join the Reindeer Section and serve an Ivor Novello winning spell as a songwriter with Snow Patrol, he would make another volte-faceinto Flood The Tanks (2005) and Magnetic North (2007), his at first insular and then latterly expansive albums on the PIAS label.

It is a rare gift afforded to few contemporary writers, that ability to switch guise and muse. But on To The Pine Roots, in a cottage in Rhein Valley on the edge of the Black forest,Iain Archer has created nine supreme examples of the songwriting craft.

State Broadcasters are proud to announce the release of their debut album ‘The Ship and The Iceberg’. The 11 song album, released on legendary student run Glasgow record label Electric Honey.

The Glasgow six-piece released their debut single ‘Let’s Make T-Shirts’ in April 2008 and follow up ‘Our Favourite Park in January 2009 to widespread acclaim. They have been endorsed by respected DJs like Gideon Coe, Steve Lamacq and Jim Gellatly. Mixing a unique lyricism with eclectic instrumentation including: clarsach, piano, banjo, cello, double bass and trombone, the sound perfectly encapsulates the broad influences of each band member.

From UK legends The Smiths to US contemporary Sufjan Stevens, ancient traditional folk to modern composers like Yann Tiersen. The 11 song collection captures the essence of these myriad influences to create an original sound that endures long after the record has stopped spinning.

Release Notes:
Campfire Classics arrives as a first venture into English-language songs for Welsh rockers Sibrydion, who've thus far developed something of a cult following thanks to a string of releases in their native tongue. Cian Ciaran from Super Furry Animals helps out with the production, which brings out the band's tendencies towards retro pop and spaghetti western soundtracks. 'Coupe De Grace' sounds like a Cardiff-based Last Shadow Puppets, while the likes of' Shangri-La' and 'Praying For Rain' really don't sound like anyone else at all - the former is a jaunty re-imagining of blissful '6os pop, while on the latter, the band throw harpsichord, rasping fuzz and nylon-strung guitars into the mix, resulting in a high energy, summery blast of colour. A beguiling and joyful thing, Campfire Classics is very much in the heritage of Welsh touchstones like Gorky's and the Super Furries. Very good indeed.

Recorded in July 2008 at Glasgow's most intimate of venue's The Captain's Rest 'Quietly Now!' sees Frightened Rabbit unleash their 2nd album 'The Midnight Organ Fight' in a more stripped-down acoustic form which fails to diminish the album instead invoking a more emotional response from singer Scott Hutchison and embellishing the tracks with a new sense of rawness and power. It's a trick I don't think many acts could pull off but by setting it in their spiritual home of Glasgow;in front of a small but passionate crowd, Frightened Rabbit have made the perfect companion to the full-blown studio album.

The Brighton-based band, known as brakesbrakesbrakes in the US and comprising members of British Sea Power and Electric Soft Parade, are preparing to release 'Touchdown' in the US on April 21.
The album features 12 songs including 'Two Shocks', Red Rag' and 'Worry About It Later'. It was recorded at Chem 19 studio in Scotland with The Delgados' Paul Savage in just one month.

Notes:
The roots of Mando Diao date back to 1995 when Björn Dixgård and the former Mando Diao member Daniel Haglund were in a band called Butler. Band members came and went and four years later the rest of the current line-up decided to take that project more seriously. Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén locked themselves up in a summer house and spent 14 months writing songs. They claim the Beatles as their original source of inspiration. Actually, Gustaf joined after he and Björn had talked all night about them. The two renamed their band Mando Diao. According to the band, the name has no particular meaning, and it appeared to band member Björn Dixgård in a dream.The now-renamed band made their first public performances in the clubs of their hometown Borlänge in 1999. A local writer described them in an article as the best unsigned band he had ever seen. This was soon followed by a record deal with EMI Sweden. In 2002 their first album Bring 'Em In was released in Sweden. It contains early demo versions of their songs, partly recorded in the basement of keyboardist Daniel Haglund who left the band later in 2003. In 2003 the album was released internationally by MUTE label, along with their debut single "Sheepdog." As of 2004, the band is hailed enthusiastically by the music press as one of the most sanguine newcomer bands of the year. The album Hurricane Bar was released in 2004. Their third album Ode to Ochrasy was released in 2006. By the end of 2006 the band released a DVD called "Down in the Past". 'Ode to Ochrasy' was released in the UK through the Nettwerk label on 2nd April 2007 in a previously unreleased format including 4 bonus tracks. In October 2007 the band released their latest album, Never Seen The Light Of Day. They have announced to release a new album on February 20th 2009. The new album's title is Give Me Fire and the first single, titled Dance With Somebody, will be released January 16th 2009. As usual Björn and Gustaf wrote lyrics and music and the album is produced by Mando Diao and The Salazar Brothers (Salla and Masse). The new album is a rocky soundtrack with lots of melancholy, soul, heart and blood.Give Me Fire is the fifth studio album by Swedish band Mando Diao. Produced By Salla Salazar of hip hop group group The Latin Kings and his brother Masse.One of Mando Diao’s roadies knew the hip hop producing brothers and introduced Gustaf Norén to them. Norén says he originally approached The Salazar Brothers as he is a massive Latin Kings fan and wanted to get an autograph, but the visit ended with a recorded song. After sitting on the song for a while he played it for the other members of the band and they decided to record more tracks with Salle & Masse.Björn Dixgård says that the band has been very inspired by movies and television with this album and cites Quentin Tarantino and Twin Peaks. He also says that the producers record collection has been a source of inspiration as well.This album will be a danceable album with a strong focus on drums, bass and percussion. The final mix of the album will be done in Los Angeles.
